Now that’s some tasty chicken!!

https://studio.youtube.com/video/Una5I1iwOPA/edit

I’m not a huge fan of meat, in fact, I am only now starting to discover it. Of all meat I have tasted so far, one thing that is a positive and sure bet is chicken. You can never go wrong with chicken, trust me. I am yet to see or meet…or even hear….maybe even google someone who hates chicken meat. There is none.

In case you do not want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, just place your chicken, chopped, into a pan, add salt then put on low heat. Let it cook for 45-50 minutes, occasionally turning the meat and you will have perfectly cooked fry chicken. If you however want to take your taste buds for a trip, take your fried chicken a flavorful mile further with the recipe below;

Ingredients

Whole chicken-cut in pieces

Chicken masala-4 tablespoons

Curry powder-1 teaspoon

Black pepper-1 teaspoon

Salt-1 teaspoon

Sugar-2teaspoons

1 lemon(Wedges)

Tomato paste

Garlic and ginger paste(blended)

METHOD

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Beat lightly to ensure all the ingredients are well incorporated.

Put the chicken pieces in the bowl with the spice mixture and mix well, ensure you coat the chicken fully and entirely. Place in a bowl and cover with a cling film for 2 hours.

2 Hrs later, place oil in a pan and onto the fire. As it boils, pour 1 cup all-purpose flour into a bowl, add 1 cup of cornflour, mix in 1 tablespoon of salt,1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper(optional), and turmeric for colour.

Take out the pieces of chicken, piece by piece place them into the flour mixture and into the oil.

Cook for 12-15 minutes and do not overcrowd the pan as the pieces of chicken will not cook evenly.

Remove from heat and place the yummy chicken pieces on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Serve with lemon slices to taste.

Disclaimer: You might have to close your windows as the aroma can be so good it might invite unwanted and unaccounted for guests(for budget purposes). In case this happens, you might want to prepare more chicken by repeating the above process.

Interview with a beautician

Mr. Muturi is a beautician and a barber. He has been in the industry for three years and is still going strong. He is located in Kikuyu town.

He gets to give us some few tips on how to look after your skin. First thing first, you need to identify your skin type.

There are five different type of skin such as Normal, oily, dry, sensitive and combined skin.

Once you have identified which skin type you have, you then need to buy products that suite your skin type.

In his line of work, he does facials such as scrubbing, steaming and moisturizing the skin.He however, points out that a sensitive skin type should not use harsh scrubbers or products.

Scrubbing should be done twice or thrice a month. Over exfoliating your skin is dangerous as it can lead to irritation and inflammation.

To the ladies. Do not sleep with your make up on. Make sure you wash your face or use a cleanser to remove your make up. If you don’t ,Mr. Muturi states that the make up will clog the pores on your face.

Essentials on weaning

Eating is one of the fundamentals of life. it is basically almost impossible to live without food although ancient wise men said water is life, so is food. From as early as birth, the first instict a newborn gets is sucking. Infants do not need to be tutored on suckling, it is as natural as can be.

In the first three to six months of a baby’s life, they are normally breast or bottle fed milk. This is because their digestive system requires time to fully adjust to processing food to useful minerals to be absorbed in the body. It is also necessary to feed children milk alone as their digestive tracts are susceptible to acquiring infections easily. In addition, infants have weaker immunity hence avoiding exposing them to numerous germs and possible contamination from utensils is an added advantage.

After 3-6 months of milk, the child will more likely be interested in something new. They might look at you longingly as you bite on a steak of take a sip of your yummy milkshake, they might even cry. This are just some hunger-cues that they may use as an indicator that they are hungry since milk is not that sustaining.

As you embark on the journey to weaning your child, readying them for adulthood, there are a few things you should get in mind;

  1. Avoid using fat/ cooking oil.
  2. Avoid spices.
  3. Do not use shouting flavours.
  4. Make sure your food is cooked thoroughly

The above are to make sure that your food taste as neutral and natural as possible. I normally just boil mine and blend, with little of no salt. Flavours may be used later in life as they may put off the child if they are strong.

Below is a list of foods that would be advisable to begin with;

Pumpkin puree(boiled pumpkin and potato)

Sweet potato puree(sweetpotato boiled and blended)

Banana puree.( banana or any other fruit blended)

Always remember to give the meals at room temperature, preferably put a bowl of hot/warm water beneath the bowl of food to make sure it does not go cold. Water is also a mandatory after every feeding to avoid constipation.

Just but a few products

From eating fruits to applying healthy products, your skin deserves the best from you.

Lilian Wambui

Taking care of your skin requires you to know what type of products are meant for your skin.

Different people have different skin types. Hence, you need to find out what works for you.

There are a lot of skin products in the market you can use. However, it is always best to consult a dermatologist before you try a specific product.

Legit products are there to give you a healthy and glowing skin. Some of the products include a cleanser, an exfoliator, toner and moisturizer.

Cleanse first before you exfoliate, so that you can remove the dirt that has been collected by your face throughout the day.

Exfoliating your skin enables the other healthy products you are using to absorb efficiently to your skin. Consult a dermatologist on how many times you should exfoliate.

Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells on your skin’s surface in order to unearth fresh new cells below.

Drinking enough water (eight glasses) is also beneficial to your body as it enables you to remove the toxins in your body and improves the elasticity of your skin. But make sure not to drink excess water as it can be harmful to you.

Don’t forget to eat healthy too!

Studies have shown that Ultraviolet (UV) rays form the sun is the number one cause of premature aging.

It is advisable that everyone should apply sunscreen and Africans are not excluded from this equation. According to Skin care foundation approximately 90 percent of skin aging is caused by the sun.

Africans too can get sunburns and also skin cancer. According to the survey above 38% of respondents believe that Africans do not need to where sunscreen. It is not embedded in their culture that sunscreen is important.

Africans are taught that just because they have more melanin, that will protect them from the harsh UV rays. Yes, black people compared to white people have a lower incident of skin cancer but that does not make a dark skin and brown skin person immune.

Over exposure to the sun causes an uneven skin tone and also increases the appearance of wrinkles. To avoid sunburns, apply sunscreen and when going out, cover up your body with clothing and hats, seek shades as much as possible.

Be attentive to your skin

Your skin is what people see every day when they meet you. How you take care of your skin will either make you proud or have you drown in disappointment.

Firstly, taking care of your skin gives you comfort. If you don’t cleanse and moisturize your skin, it becomes dry and itchy.

Honestly that doesn’t seem like something anyone would want to experience.

Secondly, having a healthier glowing skin will boost your self confidence. You will always feel good when you know you look good.

Prevention is always better than cure. To avoid future skin problems such as acne, why not take care of your skin now! There are lot of healthy products to use such as cleansers, moisturizers and sunscreen.

Make sure you consult a dermatologist as people have different skin types and what may work for your friend may not work for you.

Cleansing helps remove dead skin cells that can otherwise stick to the skin if not removed and cause your pores to get clogged which can lead to skin issues such as acne.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Hp12VR9jpfKibQ31AcVy832–m4Lh4HrmNcd19Kv9vw/edit#responses

From my survey conducted between 12th and 14th November 2020 with a sample of about 50 responses, it is evident that Kenyans prefer English and Spanish football over Kenyan football.74% of Kenyans go for English and Spanish football while 18% oppose that and support that Kenyans love Kenyan football more than English and Spanish football.

Apart from that,8% are not really decided or are not sure whether Kenyan or English and Spanish are their preferences. Worldwide, English football had the greatest following compared to Spanish football where English teams such as Manchester united had a following of about 650 million who rank top of the table for the clubs with the most followers in England representing a 39.9 %.

Next on the table is Chelsea who rank second according to the data website sportmarkt with a global fan base of about 135 million followers, followed by Liverpool, Manchester city, Tottenham hotspurs and Everton.
